Do you suffer from seasonal allergies? Are you tired of pet dander or bad smells hanging around?
These common annoyances can be amplified by daily air pollution in the home. When we think of “pollution,” it’s easy to think of the old coal-burning factories that belched black smoke across the city skyline, but pollution can also be small things like dust, airborne illnesses, even the fumes from household cleaning products.
The cure is a whole-home air purifier.
According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the air in an average home is 2 to 5 times more polluted than the outside air. This is mostly because houses are enclosed spaces. Normal HVAC systems filter out airborne dust and other particles, but two-thirds of air pollution is too small to be caught. As this pollution builds over time, it regularly decreases your home’s air quality.
There are three basic categories for the different kinds of pollutants or contaminants that affect Indoor Air Quality (IAQ):
- Big particles like dust and dust mites.
- Biological concerns like mold and bacteria.
- Chemicals that enter the air from wet paint or household cleaners.
HVAC installations already include a filter to catch particles, but standard filters can’t catch microscopic contaminants like viruses or chemicals. Some people also try to save money by installing cheaper filters with low MERV* ratings, causing a more rapid decrease in air quality.
This is where air purifiers come into the picture to help clean the air. There are three types of purifiers as well:
- You can buy an advanced HEPA filter that will catch bacteria but will also increase the strain on your system because of how dense it is. Inversely, there are electrostatic filters that allow for more airflow because they use static electricity to draw in and capture contaminants but these only work to about a MERV rating of 8 or 9.
- Ionizing Purifiers electrically charge the air in your home to remove airborne contaminants, also removing the extra pressure a HEPA filter brings. However, this ionization also affects oxygen, turning some of it into ozone. Ozone destroys bacteria, viruses, mold, and more, but prolonged exposure to high levels of it can cause damage to all living things, including you and your lungs.
- The third type of purifier cleans the air with ultraviolet (UV) light and is technology that hospitals have used for decades. Today’s cutting-edge systems include advancements like activated carbon which reduces the amount of ozone, while still killing germs. This quality is what we can bring to your house.
The new and advanced UV air purification systems that we install now treat and remove all three types of pollution from the home.
- Air particulates are handled by our upgraded MERV* 16 filter, providing superior air quality.
- UV light burns off most types of bacteria, viruses, mold, pollen, and other living contaminants.
- Activated Carbon transforms chemicals or Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) into harmless compounds like carbon dioxide and water vapor.
The air quality in your home can go from 33% of air filtration to 99%.

*MERV stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value and is a scale ranging from 1 to 16 for residential installations. Basically, MERV 16 filters are way better at catching particulates than MERV 1 filters are.
